In this tutorial, we use a function grapher template and custom classes from our MathDL Flash Forum article Flash Tools for Developers (AS3): Graphing Curves on the Plane. We use the template to built a grapher that graphs a user-defined function. The user is then encouraged to sketch the graph of the derivative of the function with the mouse. The actual derivative is displayed after the appropriate button is clicked. The zipped folder below contains a pdf guide, derivative_grapher.pdf, which will guide you through the tutorial as well as all the necessary files. For your convenience the full documentation of the custom classes is included in the folder, too. Those classes include a custom math expressions parser and a graphing board.
